Maverick Poet Award Finalist: ....AND THE CHILDREN ARE WATCHING.... by UMI

Issa Salih Umi is a poet (Presenter Of Eternal Truths) wno is the first of siblings born in the city of Chicago.. I poet because I have something to say. I poet a lot because I have A LOT to say. Beyond answering to the name poet. I consider myself a wordsmith, cosmic scribe, performance artist, and sound shape shifter. I have discovered the primary theme that write about is relationships with all beings/all life (who, what, when, where, and why?) What is my accountability and responsibility to insure that I give my best to diligently preserve, sustain, respect, honor, perpetuate that relationship ad infinitum .

And The Children Are Watching.represents my response to those persons/nations/governments who profusely profess their love for children and offer up multitudes of oaths to protect them yet their actions/conducts/behaviors sacrifice their lives on the altars of war, poverty, violence, greed, ignorance, self-destructive behavior, indifference, hatred, dis-ease, and racism. The "... And The Children Are Watching" poem is to serve notice to those persons, nations, and governments that the Children (Of The World/Of The Sun/Of God have watched you and are watching you until they can take the necessary steps, ways, and means to
respond in the appropriate manner.

ou say the children they must be saved

As you mislead us to uinto early graves.

You want us to say no to drugs,

Yet say yes to oathed up thugs

You  don't want us to say this

yes this we know.

Enuff of this shit. We

Can't take it no mo.

You teach us be seen/not heard.

You preach us believe our gospelled words

You kill us on ugly/ungodly days in

or outside of the hoods.

You touch me, then you killed my childhood.

You killed my sisters/my brothers,

my friends that I will never again see

You sinned my dreams,

dreams I will never be.

You killed, killed, killed me

with you dreaded fears

masked manned hysterica

You killed Jesus Children

of this of thee America.

killing sprees in known/unknown seasons

You kill, me for all your wrong reasons.

You kill me, took my freedom prisoner

You killed me, my scarred soul eye witness

You kill me in quietly sadistic.

Killing pandemics with deadly timed statistics.

You killed me, the list is endless,

You dissed my life relentless.

You killing, justified homicides defended,

How does my child self make sense out of nonsense?

How can you believe we children

are the future

We lie dormant some dark space nside your head

where hostile hypocrisies we never neutered

By your missiles guided truth make us dead.

You kill me in overseasoned wars live from the frontlines,

You kill me behind demonized enemy eyes,

Battlefield zones of the free and braved,

Now I lay me down to sleep in yonder graves.

You kill me

Sanctified

You kill me

Genocides

You kill me

Homicides

You kill me

Suicides

You kill me

Aborticide

You kill me

Infanticide

You kill me

Ambicide

You kill me

Gynecide

You kill me

Vaticide

You kill me

Vaticide

You kill me

Toxicide

You kill me

Getmicide

You killed me,

War on poverty

War on drugs

War on crime

You kill me

Urban wars,

Cold wars

World wars

Hallowed be thy name

Shallow be thy claim

No can explain

Why these bullets are inside head?

How am I in the wrong at the wrong time.

In this place peace can't find no where its head,

War drones

War zones

War tones,

War sirens

No I lay me down to the moans and cries of anguish screams loud

No I lay me down to bleed out on this

city street.

As I view my last worldly scene all ask

Our Mother,

Our Father,

Where is the love when you need it....
